about WORLD SAKE DAY NYC

World Sake Day NYC was founded, conceptualised, and originated by Mika Furuya in 2021. The first ever World Sake Day NYC was held in 2021 at Mika’s own venue, MIKA Bar in Bushwick, in collaboration and partnership with Shinobu Kato of Kato Sake Works, Brooklyn. In 2021 there were 12 sakes represented by four companies : Kato Sake Works, Gosakeman, Kubota, and Skurnik Wines. The first event had over 300 hundred attendees and this has grown steadily ever since. Now in its 5th year under the stewardship of Mika Furuya, World Sake Day NYC proudly hosts over 70 sakes and 40 breweries from across Japan and the USA.

The mission of World Sake Day NYC is to increase the awareness and appreciation for the deep history, people, and culture behind Japanese craft sake. World Sake Day NYC does this by hosting events where guests have the opportunity to interact and learn directly from the experts at craft sake breweries.
